COURSE OVERVIEW

Learn techniques to eliminate irresponsible student behavior. Create a classroom environment that invites and models self-responsibility. Apply strategies to increase your own sense of personal power.

Create classrooms that support responsibility.

  • Identify two major causes of a student's irresponsible behavior.
  • Help students create an inner sense of personal power.
  • Teach students positive mental thinking patterns and decision-making skills.
  • Prevent power struggles.
  • Discover ways to eliminate learned helplessness and victim behavior.
  • Encourage students to assume increasing amounts of responsibility for their school experiences.
  • Show students how to develop an "I Can" stance towards life.

Increase your personal power.

  • Learn to use language, techniques, and skills with students that encourage responsibility, independence, and empowerment.
  • Practice strategies to deal effectively with irresponsible student behaviors.
  • Explore ways to avoid enabling behaviors, which encourage irresponsibility in students.
  • Gain clarity about "what is" and "what is not" within your power in an educational setting.

Find new ways to take responsibility for your relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.

INSTRUCTOR

This course is offered through Performance Learning Systems. PLS instructors are experienced classroom teachers and possess excellent facilitation skills.
