Central Mission of Organization:

The Des Moines Committee on Foreign Relations (DMCFR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing public dialogue on foreign relations. DMCFR holds evening meetings featuring a speaker on topics of various aspects of foreign policy and international issues. Our meetings are held at Wakonda Country Club in Des Moines, Iowa.


History of Organization:

Established as a program of the Council on Foreign Relations in 1938, American Committees on Foreign Relations (AFCR) became its own association in 1995 and established headquarters in Washington, D.C. Comprised of more than 30 local affiliates around the country, AFCR promotes dialogue between civic leaders and policy makers and other foreign relations experts through lecture-discussions and other civic forums.

The Des Moines Committee on Foreign Relations meets monthly from September through May. The format is as follows:


Reception from 5:30pm to 6:15pm

Speaker and Q&A from 6:15pm to 7:30pm

Dinner at 7:30pm (optional)

We have an annual membership fee of $200.00, with a per reception cost of $20.00.

The Comparison Project will present the third event in its 2016–2017 series on death and dying. A community interfaith dialogue on Oct. 27 will feature representatives of three different refugee religions in Des Moines.
