Message from the Chair

Welcome to the website for the Chemistry Department.

I am very pleased to describe some of the distinct features of our department.

Our program is certified by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Chemistry departments certified by ACS provide a chemistry education that prepares students for their future professional careers.

Our students have been successful in obtaining summer fellowships and internships at local and national institutions and corporations. Drake chemistry students have earned national research awards and the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, the most prestigious award in the United States for undergraduates in the sciences. Students with an interest in further education have been accepted to prestigious graduate schools across the nation.

Our faculty has been recognized for their commitment to excellence and effective teaching through awards given by the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the University.

We have excellent teaching and research facilities and modern instrumentation which are accessible to our students to gain hands-on experience. We prepare our students for graduate school, and their professional lives through excellence in teaching, mentoring and one-on-one research with faculty.
