The team from Drake - Seth Housman, Kejal Patel, Kevin Weber, Jennifer Lose - finished third in the national Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee Competition at the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Annual Meeting in San Francisco.  The Pharmacy and Therapeutics Competition mimics the process used by hospitals and insurance plans in deciding if a new drug should be placed on their formulary.  The team wrote a monograph of the designated drug, assessed its cost-effectiveness and place in therapy, and formally presented and defended its analysis and recommendation.  The P&T competition requires knowledge and skills from the entire curriculum:  therapeutic and pharmacologic assessment, drug literature evaluation, economic analysis, and communication skills.

Drake has been participating in the P&T Competition the past 5 years, beginning in 2004.   Drake has been in the top 8 finalist pool twice in the past four years, finishing first in the nation in 2004.  The final competition is among the top 8 teams from across the nation.  Each school can submit the work of one team; AMCP judges these written materials, and selects the 8 finalists to compete at its annual meeting.
