Tigges Retires After 30 Years with Drake University's College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences

Please join our College in offering farewells to Norma Tigges as she retires from Drake University's College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences after almost 30 years of service.

A Message from Norma Tigges:

On July 31, 2007, I will be retiring from Drake University.  I have been with Drake a few days short of 30 years.  This past week I had lunch with Dean Boyd Granberg (CPHS Dean Emeriti) and Mary Jane Murchison (CPHS current staff).  Dean Granberg hired me, and I have worked with Mary Jane for 23 years, it was a good time for reflection of my journey here at Drake.

I have worked as an Administrative Assistant for four Deans; C. Boyd Granberg, Ronald Kluza, Stephan Hoag, and Raylene Rospond.  I have also worked under four Interim Deans:  Richard Morrow, Katheryn Russi, James Reynolds, and Raylene Rospond.

I was hired when the College of Pharmacy resided in Fitch Hall, and there was less than 10 faculty, 2 staff and about 200 students in the five year Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.  There were no computers in the office and when we obtained a memory typewriter, we thought we were moving up in the world.  That was almost 30 years ago, and during that time we have expanded in so many wonderful ways, growing as a college with students, faculty, staff, programs, and offices.

One of the great growing experiences for me was the opportunity to take classes on campus.  I enjoyed doing this for several years.  Learning is exciting!

As I leave the college, the wonderful thing that I will always remember was the opportunity to work with talented and caring faculty, staff, alumni and students through all of my years here at Drake.

Norma certainly deserves to enjoy her well-earned retirement!  We will miss her expertise and excellent service.     Happy retirement Norma!
