Why do we have an advising program at Drake - can't I just follow the curriculum guide and degree audit and sign up for the courses listed on those documents?

I am a student in the Drake curriculum (began at Drake as a first year pre-pharmacy student Fall 98 or after) and I'm a bit confused about the outcome requirements. Students older than I am have elective requirements-do I have those as well?
I'm not sure if pharmacy is for me-what should I do?

The COPHS pharmacy advising program seeks to support the mission of Drake University and the pharmacy program in the provision of a student-centered learning environment. The pharmacy advising program personnel include the faculty advisor and the Student Services Office. Through this team as well as the curriculum guide, degree audit, and student handbooks, you have multiple sources of information to address the Drake general education and pharmacy program curricular objectives. The mechanics of these curricula are addressed through your individual education plan. This plan will be developed by you with input from your faculty advisor and the college's student service personnel. The development of your plan should seek to achieve the following:
1) confirmation of the student's major within the pharmacy program,
2) discussion of professional life goals including career paths and post-graduate work,
3) satisfactory completion of requirements of the program,
4) completion of annual requirements for progression within the program,
5) development of skills necessary for succeeding in the program that they have chosen, and
6) referral of the student to the resources and services on campus if needed.
