Question: How long does it take to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and become a licensed pharmacist and why?

Answer: Students earn the PharmD after completing a two-year pre-pharmacy program followed by a four-year professional program. The focus of the pre- pharmacy program is to provide the foundation courses in math and science in addition to other required areas. The four-year professional program consists of three years of on-campus pharmacy coursework (with some practical experiences) followed by a full year of rotations in various pharmacy settings.
