FAQ
Question: What if I’m not directly admitted to the CPHS? Can I still come to Drake? What are my options?
Answer: Students should consider enrolling at Drake because they feel it’s the right college for them and wish to earn a Drake degree, whether it is a pharmacy degree or not. Students should not enroll at Drake only to try to increase their chances of entering the pharmacy program. Besides, all students, whether they are admitted directly to the CPHS or not, should have a Plan A and a Plan B when it comes to pharmacy. There is a huge demand among students to enter pharmacy programs at all of the 85 accredited institutions in the U.S., and each program can generally accommodate between 90 and 150 in any given year, depending on the number mandated by the professional accrediting organization for a particular institution. Gaining admission to a professional pharmacy program is, in many respects, like trying to gain admission to medical school.
Drake’s Career Center has many resources and ideas for various career paths in the greater pharmaceutical field and in science in general. Keep in mind that the pharmaceutical industry alone does not just hire licensed pharmacists; the industry hires marketing representatives, researchers, accountants, communications professionals, etc.
