Strategies For Success


Time Table Calendar

January

  • Start studying for MCAT, PCAT, GRE, DAT, etc. either individually or group dynamic.
  • Commercial services are available.
  • Scholarship application should be done earlier, i.e. December.

February

  • Research specific schools for information pertaining to application procedures.
  • Buy test practice books.
  • Sign up for test trainings.

March

  • Register for the spring MCAT (for premeds).
  • Order copies of all transcripts sent to you. Review and proofread transcripts and have any errors or omissions corrected. Check that requirements are completed or close to completion.
  • Write an autobiography.
  • Write a resume and cover letter.
  • Make an appointment with Professional & Career Development Services to review your resume/cover letter.

April

  • Take the spring MCAT (only Spring MCATS are advised for entering the subsequent year.)
  • Write the essay on why you want to enter your chosen career, using your autobiography.
  • Begin requests for letters of recommendation.

May

  • Go on line for official applications.
  • Request all official transcripts sent to AMCAS and non-AMCAS schools (for Premeds).
  • Transcript requests must be made to Student Records and Academic Information. Make sure to proofread your official copy first – then order them sent to professional schools.

June/July

  • Research financial aid using school websites.
  • Apply to schools.
  • Register for August MCAT and test preparation. (Note – August MCAT should not be used for subsequent year entry).
  • Request scholarship for August test preparation if using commercial service.

August

  • Organize application materials.
  • Respond to requests by the schools for secondary application materials and for letters of recommendation.

September/October/November/December/January

  • Continue to send letters as requested by schools.
  • Prepare for interviews. Mock interviewing available through Professional & Career Development Services
