Public Health Scholarship Program
Call for 2008 Scholarship Applications
The Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation is soliciting applications for its Public Health Scholarships to be awarded in the Fall of 2008.
DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked or dispatched by delivery service by June 20, 2008 and sent to the Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation.
Requirements:
- Acceptance by an accredited College or University to an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing, or Public Health
- A minimum grade-point-average of 2.5
- A commitment to serve the interests of low-income Latino and/or other low-income communities and Financial need.
The purpose of the Roybal Foundation Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students in accredited colleges or universities pursuing public health careers and wishing to serve the interest of low-income Spanish-speaking, and/or other low-income communities.
The Roybal Foundation offers scholarships in four areas: Optometry, Pharmacy, Nursing, and public health-related programs. For 2008, a minimum of $20,000 in scholarships will be awarded in each of these four areas. Individual scholarships will be in the amount of $5,000 for graduate students and $2,500 for undergraduate students.

Health Sciences Scholarship Opportunity
Health Professions Scholarship Program – US ARMY
The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP)
Provides full tuition for accredited medical, dental, veterinary, optometry and psychology programs as well as:
- Reimbursement for books, academic fees and non-expendable laboratory equipment
- A monthly stipend of more than $1,600
- Hands-on training form leading health care providers
- An established practice with no overhead costs
You will train along side Army health care professionals in your specialty. Our training sessions are designed to help you rapidly gain more experience in our global health care organization. You will also be eligible to apply for highly sought residency programs. Held in Army Medical Centers, these hands-on learning experiences combine clinical research, hands-on experience and teaching. Medical
Receive your full-tuition scholarship to any accredited school of medicine or osteopath for up to four years. After graduation, you can apply for GME-accredited residency programs and or fellowships in Army health care facilities. Approximately 75 to 85 percent of HPSP students match to Army programs, with approximately 85 percent receiving their first or second choice. Those HPSP students who do not match are assigned to civilian programs in the specialty of their choice.
Dental
As a dental student, you are eligible to receive HPSP funding for up to four years at any ADA-accredited D.D.S. or D.M.D. program. Once you have completed your studies and taken your board certification examination, you can continue your training in the Army Advanced Education in General Dentistry 12-month Program. This program provides hands-on training in oral diagnosis and treatment, oral and maxillofacial pathology, periodontics, orthodontics, restorative dentistry and pediatric dentistry.
Veterinary
You can qualify for up to three years of HPSP funding at an AVMA-accredited DVM or VMD program. Once you have graduated, you will be commissioned as a Captain in the Veterinary Corps. As you practice veterinary medicine, you will have opportunities to continue your education in areas such as public health, veterinary epidemiology and laboratory animal health.
Optometry
Realize your vision of an optometry career with up to four years of HPSP funding at any accredited optometry program. After graduating, you will have opportunities to develop your talents by participating in residency training, seminars, advanced degree programs and our exclusive optometry MBA.
Clinical and Counseling Psycology
You can complete coursework toward a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology with this one- or two-year scholarship. Once you have finished, you can participate in advanced training programs, continuing education courses and peer-reviewed research.
Central Illinois Pharmaceutical Association
The Central Illinois Pharmaceutical Association, along with the West Central Society of Hospital Pharmacists, is please to announce the availability of scholarships to local College of Pharmacy students. In 2007 our two associations awarded 17 scholarships to deserving pharmacy students. Candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the $500 awards:

- Be a resident (hometown) within 50 miles of Peoria, IL
- Have completed at least one year of college level studies and
- Be pursuing a degree in pharmacy at a college or university that has an accredited college of pharmacy.

In addition to the scholarship application you must provide a copy of your transcript of your last completed semester grades, and a brief statement of your reasons for choosing the profession of pharmacy as a career.

Drake Alumnae Association Scholarships
The Scholarship Committee of the Drake Alumnae Association of Des Moines has announced that they will award at least five scholarships in the amount of at least $2,000. (The Scholarship amounts could increase as donations are still coming in). The Scholarships will be awarded to current Drake students and awards will be applied toward Drake tuition for the 2008-2009 school year.
The Drake Alumnae Association of Des Moines was established in 1920 to keep Drake alumnae and friends in touch with their University. Dues and member contributions support the scholarship fund.
To qualify, any Drake undergraduate student who is a junior, senior or a P1, P2 in the Pharmacy program in good academic standing may apply. Applications are due to Emily Weaver in the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs by Monday, March 31, 2008
The award recipients will be notifies of their selection by Monday May 5, 2008.

Medco Labor Coalition Scholarship
Be a Part of Pharmacy's Future
Students are able to apply online at www.scholarshipprograms.org. Applicants will be instructed to complete the application packets and return them to CSA along with additional materials requested. The deadline for submitting an online application is April 15, 2008. Additional materials must be mailed in one envelope postmarked by April 15, 2008.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
- Applicant must be a natural or legally adopted child of a current member of the Medco Labor Coalition and a current subscriber and/or a member Medco.
- Applicant must be a high school senior or a current college student.
- Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or equivalent.
- Applicant must demonstrate traits of high personal character and leadership.
- Applicant must be planning to attend or currently enrolled as a full time student in an accredited, undergraduate pharmacy program.
- Applicant must attend an accredited college/university in the United States.
The Medco Labor Coalition is the first coalition designed to provide pharmacy benefits for small-to-midsize unions to work directly with a pharmacy benefit manager, offering pricing for benefits comparable to that experienced by larger labor organizations.

Scholarships for Health Care Careers

Iowa is experiencing a severe shortage of health care professionals. Recognizing the need for more trained health care professionals, the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) is ready to help health care students pay for their education.
Through the Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation (IHERF), an affiliate of IHA, Iowa's hospitals have created a scholarship program to assist students pursuing careers in health care. Students can receive up to $3,000 per year in assistance from the program.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited health care programs leading to licensure or a clinical laboratory degree (eligible health careers for the 2008 program are listed below and are on the application form)
- Currently within two years of completing professional education
- Committed to working for an Iowa hospital (one year for each scholarship awarded)
- Complete scholarship application form by the deadline
You will receive...
...as much as $3,000 per academic year, or a maximum of $6,000 for two years! Work repayment in Iowa hospitals is required. In the past three years, over 79 scholarships ($3,000 each) have been awarded.

NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Student Scholarship Program
Scholarships for Tomorrow's Chain Pharmacy Leaders
The goal of the NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Student Scholarship Program is to support the development of future leaders in the chain community pharmacy industry and to recognize pharmacy students who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in chain community pharmacy.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS:
- A minimum of forty-five (45) $2,000 scholarships will be awarded.
- In addition, select recipients will receive named scholarships in the amount of $2,500.
- In 2006, 40 pharmacy students, increased from 37 in 2005, were awarded scholarships.
ELIGIBILITY:
- The student applicant must be enrolled as a full-time pharmacy student in an accredited U.S. college or school of pharmacy studying to obtain a doctor of pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.).
- Student applicants must have completed at least one professional year of pharmacy school to apply. First-year pharmacy students are not eligible to apply.
- The student applicant must have experience in chain community pharmacy, as well as the desire to pursue a career in chain community pharmacy. Experience may be current or recent employment in a chain community pharmacy. A chain community pharmacy is defined as a community retail pharmacy company operating four or more stores.
- The student applicant must have a minimum "C" grade point average.
- Previous NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Student Scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply; however, previous applicants are welcome to reapply.
- Family members of the NACDS Foundation Board of Directors or Officers are not eligible to apply. For a list of Board of Directors and Officers, please visit the NACDS Foundation website at www.nacdsfoundation.org.
