AfterCollege Scholarship

AfterCollege is proud to offer a scholarship for students currently studying to be Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacologists, or Doctors of Pharmacy! This scholarship will be given three times annually.

The deadlines are March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31.

4 - $500 Scholarships

Eligibility for Student Scholarship:

• Student in good standing in an accredited program in the field of pharmacy

• Have and carry a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

• Must be a full-time student when applying for the scholarship

• Must be a member of a department/student organization that is working with AfterCollege (If you don’t know, contact your dean or department chair to see if you work with us)

The recipients of the scholarship will be determined by the AfterCollege Pharmacy Student Scholarship Committee and will be announced the month following the scholarship deadline.

NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Student Scholarship Program

Scholarships for Tomorrow's Chain Pharmacy Leaders

The goal of the NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Student Scholarship Program is to support the development of future leaders in the chain community pharmacy industry and to recognize pharmacy students who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in chain community pharmacy.

Lou Carta Scholarship

$1000 to be awarded as one individual or two $500 individual scholarships

Minimum requirements for this award are:

• Geographic area (hometown must be within approximately 100 miles of Council Bluffs, Iowa)

• U. S. citizenship

• Good academic standing (GPA 2.5 or above)

• Currently enrolled in pharmacy school (current second year or above student)

• Personal interview (for finalists)

NASA MUST Scholarship

The Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology Project, or MUST, funded by the NASA, is a joint partnership between the Hispanic College Fund, the United Negro College Fund Special Programs and the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers.

MUST awards scholarships and internships to undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, fields. The MUST Project is open to all students and is particularly focused on engaging students from undeserved and underrepresented groups to enter STEM fields.

Each year, the MUST Project will support approximately 100 undergraduate students with a one-year competitive scholarship of up to one-half of tuition, not to exceed $10,000. Students who maintain the required minimum grade point average will be eligible for a paid internship at a NASA center. Additionally, students will benefit year-round from tutoring, lecture series and mentoring from STEM faculty and peers.

Scholarships for Health Care Careers
Regular and Nontraditional Students are encouraged to apply!

Iowa is experiencing a severe shortage of health care professionals.  Recognizing the need for more trained health care professionals, the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) is ready to help health care students pay for their education.

Through the Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation (IHERF), an affiliate of IHA, Iowa's hospitals have created a scholarship program to assist students pursuing careers in health care.  Students can receive up to $3,000 per year in assistance from the program.

Eligibility Requirements:

You will receive...
...as much as $3,000 per academic year, or a maximum of $6,000 for two years!  Work repayment in Iowa hospitals is required.  In the past three years, over 79 scholarships ($3,000 each) have been awarded.

Drake Alumnae Association Scholarships

The Scholarship Committee of the Drake Alumnae Association of Des Moines has announced that they will award at least five scholarships in the amount of $2,000. The scholarships will be awarded to current Drake students and awards will be applied toward Drake tuition for the 2010-2011 school year.The Drake Alumnae Association of Des Moines was established in 1920 to keep Drake alumnae and friends in touch with their University.  Dues and member contributions support the scholarship fund.  To qualify, any Drake undergraduate student who is a sophomore, junior or a P1, P2 in the Pharmacy program in good academic standing may apply.  Applications are due to Jonathan Brendemuehl in the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs by Monday, March 29, 2010.

The award recipients will be notifies of their selection in May 4, 2010.

Medco Labor Coalition Scholarship
Be a Part of Pharmacy's Future

Students are able to apply online at
www.scholarshipprograms.org.  Applicants will be instructed to complete the application packets and return them to CSA along with additional materials requested.  The deadline for submitting an online application is April, 2009.  Additional materials must be mailed in one envelope postmarked by April 1, 2009.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:

  • Applicant must be a natural or legally adopted child of a current member of the Medco Labor Coalition and a current subscriber and/or a member Medco.
  • Applicant must be a high school senior or a current college student.
  • Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or equivalent.
  • Applicant must demonstrate traits of high personal character and leadership.
  • Applicant must be planning to attend or currently enrolled as a full time student in an accredited, undergraduate pharmacy program.
  • Applicant must attend an accredited college/university in the United States.

The Medco Labor Coalition is the first coalition designed to provide pharmacy benefits for small-to-midsize unions to work directly with a pharmacy benefit manager, offering pricing for benefits comparable to that experienced by larger labor organizations.

NCPA Foundation Scholarship
Application Deadline: April 15, 2010

The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Foundation is pleased to announce the continuation of the Presidential Scholarship program. Student members of NCPA are eligible to apply. The student must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. school or college of pharmacy on a full-time basis during the 2010 fall term and the 2011 spring term. (Note: Students may only receive this award one time.)

Potential candidates for the Presidential Scholarship program will be evaluated by the NCPA Foundation Scholarship Committee on the basis of leadership qualities and accomplishments with a demonstrated interest in independent pharmacy, as well as involvement in extracurricular activities and demonstrated academic success.

The following materials must be provided with the completed application form:

        * Copy of the most recent official transcript of grades.

        * Letter from a school official familiar with the student's activities. This letter should briefly describe the student's extracurricular accomplishments, leadership qualities and contributions to the school (one-sided).

        * Letter from a pharmacy owner or manager, preferably an NCPA member. This letter should briefly describe the student's extracurricular accomplishments, leadership qualities, contributions to the profession of pharmacy and pharmacist's knowledge of applicant's interest in independent pharmacy as a career (one-sided).

        * Letter from the applicant to the NCPA Foundation Scholarship Awards Committee outlining his or her school and civic accomplishments and objectives for the future. Must provide a separate one-page description of his or her demonstrated interest in independent pharmacy and his or her vision for the development of innovative pharmacy practices that emphasize quality patient care leading to improved patient health outcomes (one-sided).

        * Résumé or curriculum vitae describing the student's work and professional experience (one-sided, 3 page maximum).

The NCPA Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1953 to honor former NARD Executive Secretary John W. Dargavel. Contributions to the foundation are tax-deductible to the extent permitted under federal tax law. The foundation supports the growth and advancement of independent community pharmacy through: 1. Critical research to improve the success of independent pharmacies; 2. Scholarships and low-interest educational loans to pharmacy students; 3. Community pharmacy-based health care prevention and awareness programs; 4. Programs to stimulate pharmacy ownership, management and entrepreneurism; and 5. Financial assistance to independent pharmacy owners for their recovery in the event of disaster, accidents, illness, or adverse circumstances.


The Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation
Public Health Scholarship Program

The Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation is soliciting applications for its Public Health Scholarships to be awarded in the Fall of 2009.

DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked or dispatched by delivery service on/before the deadline of Friday, May 1, 2009; and, sent to the Lucille and Edward R. Roybal Foundation at 5253 E. Beverly Boulevard, East Los Angeles, CA 90022-2020.

Requirements:

• Hispanic Students in their Junior or Senior year or in a Graduate Program of an accredited College or University in Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing, or Public Health;

• A minimum grade-point-average of 2.5;

• A commitment to serve the interests of low-income Latino communities in the United States; and,

• Financial need.

The purpose of the Roybal Foundation Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships to Hispanic Students in their Junior or Senior year or in a Graduate Program of an accredited College or University who are pursuing public health careers and wish to serve the interest of low-income Spanish-speaking communities in the United States.

The Roybal Foundation offers scholarships in four areas: Optometry, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Public Health-related programs. Individual scholarships will be in the amount of $5,000 for graduate students and $2,500 for undergraduate students.

The Central Illinois Pharmaceutical Association, along with the West Central Society of Hospital Pharmacists, is please to announce the availability of scholarships to local College of Pharmacy students.  In 2009 our two associations awarded 14 scholarships to deserving pharmacy students.  Candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the $500 awards:

  • Six year scholarships available - worth full tuition and fees for PharmD students who meet requirements.

  • Pass a Medical and Physical Army exam
  • Remain under 31 years of age before graduation
  • 6 Year active duty obligation to the Army and promotion to captain after completion of PharmD.

Health Sciences Scholarship Opportunity

Health Professions Scholarship Program – US ARMY

The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP)

Provides full tuition for accredited medical, dental, veterinary, optometry and psychology programs as well as:

  • Reimbursement for books, academic fees and non-expendable laboratory equipment
  • A monthly stipend of more than $1,600
  • Hands-on training form leading health care providers
  • An established practice with no overhead costs

You will train along side Army health care professionals in your specialty.  Our training sessions are designed to help you rapidly gain more experience in our global health care organization.  You will also be eligible to apply for highly sought residency programs.  Held in Army Medical Centers, these hands-on learning experiences combine clinical research, hands-on experience and teaching.  To apply visit www.healthcare.goarmy.com/hpsp  

Medical
Receive your full-tuition scholarship to any accredited school of medicine or osteopath for up to four years.  After graduation, you can apply for GME-accredited residency programs and or fellowships in Army health care facilities.  Approximately 75 to 85 percent of HPSP students match to Army programs, with approximately 85 percent receiving their first or second choice.  Those HPSP students who do not match are assigned to civilian programs in the specialty of their choice.

Dental
As a dental student, you are eligible to receive HPSP funding for up to four years at any ADA-accredited D.D.S. or D.M.D. program.  Once you have completed your studies and taken your board certification examination, you can continue your training in the Army Advanced Education in General Dentistry 12-month Program.  This program provides hands-on training in oral diagnosis and treatment, oral and maxillofacial pathology, periodontics, orthodontics, restorative dentistry and pediatric dentistry.

Veterinary
You can qualify for up to three years of HPSP funding at an AVMA-accredited DVM or VMD program.  Once you have graduated, you will be commissioned as a Captain in the Veterinary Corps.  As you practice veterinary medicine, you will have opportunities to continue your education in areas such as public health, veterinary epidemiology and laboratory animal health.

Optometry
Realize your vision of an optometry career with up to four years of HPSP funding at any accredited optometry program.  After graduating, you will have opportunities to develop your talents by participating in residency training, seminars, advanced degree programs and our exclusive optometry MBA.

Clinical and Counseling Psycology
You can complete coursework toward a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology with this one- or two-year scholarship.  Once you have finished, you can participate in advanced training programs, continuing education courses and peer-reviewed research.
