DRAKE PHARMACY FACULTY MEMBERS HONORED
Drake University recently honored a distinguished group of faculty members and mentors in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at the college's student-organized Pharmacy and Health Sciences Day.The honorees are:
• Heidi Price of Urbandale, instructor of pharmacy practice, Mentor of the Year Award
• John Gitua of Clive, assistant professor of chemistry, non-CPHS Teacher of the Year Award
• Robert Soltis of Des Moines, professor of pharmacology and department chair of pharmaceutical sciences, Teacher of the Year Award
• Matthew Hubble of West Des Moines, anticoagulation pharmacist at Mercy Medical Center, Adjunct Faculty Preceptor of the Year Award
• Carrie Koenigsfeld of Johnston, associate professor of pharmacy practice and clinical pharmacist at Lakeview Internal Medicine, Faculty Preceptor of the Year Award
• Chuck Phillips of Waukee, associate professor of pharmacy administration and assistant dean of assessment, Hartig Distinguished Professor Award
• Renae Chesnut of Johnston, associate professor of pharmacy practice and associate dean for academic and student affairs, Hartig Faculty Development Award
The mentor, teacher and preceptor of the year awards are given annually to faculty nominated by students.
Both of the Hartig awards are funded annually by the Hartig Pharmacy Fund, which was established by Drake alumnus Richard Hartig of Hartig Drug Stores based in Dubuque, Iowa, and his wife, Brenda.
The Hartig Distinguished Professor Award recognizes a pharmacy faculty member who has distinguished himself or herself in teaching, scholarship, service or practice during the previous academic year. Emphasis is given to accomplishments that demonstrate uniqueness, innovation and creativity.
The Hartig Faculty Development Award supports a faculty member's development activities that educate, encourage and enhance entrepreneurialism in community pharmacy practice or ownership.
