Proposals
should be received one week prior (i.e., the Friday before the scheduled UCC meetings) for people wanting to submit courses for AOI approval.

The current chair of the UCC is Lisa West, the vice chair is Joanna Mosser.  The templates should be sent to Lisa West.  Faculty are encouraged to attend the UCC meeting at which their proposal is being discussed.  If the faculty member her/himself is not available, he/she should ask the department or program chair or another representative who is familiar with the course proposal to attend on his/her behalf.

We will post the list of approved courses after each UCC meeting on the Drake Curriculum website.

TEMPLATE FOR AOI SUBMISSIONS TO UCC

Effective 09/26/08

Please carefully read the AOI description online and use this description in preparing your responses. Keep in mind that at least half of your course must address the AOI requested. Normally courses meet only one AOI. Exceptions must be clearly supported.

Please provide the following information. Your course syllabus may be used as supporting documentation (match numbers here to notations on your syllabus or other supporting documents as appropriate or cut and paste)

1.  Name of instructor and department/college/school proposing course for Drake Curriculum AOI.

2.  Course name and number; please list all cross-listed numbers.

3.  For which AOI are you applying?

4.  List any prerequisites for the course

5.  If there is already a catalog description of the course, please copy that description onto the AOI form.

6.  Predicted enrollment for non-majors

7.  Include mention of when the course is typically offered (i.e., fall or spring) and how often

8.  Credit hours

9.  Course description (may be the catalog description):

10.  Typical or sample course texts and readings:

11.  Please list one to three general student learning objectives (outcomes) that address the AOI under consideration:

12.  Projects and assignments:

13.  Assessment methods that address the AOI student learning objectives listed above.

14.  Please write a brief paragraph describing how this course meets the appropriate AOI(s).

The UCC also encourages you or a representative from your program or department to attend our meeting for added clarification and quick turnaround.

Please inform the committee if there is a substantial change in an approved course, including a course number or major title change. This may require re-submission.
