Environmental speaker Shalini Kantayya will give the Hawley Foundation Lecture at Drake University.  A renowned filmmaker and Director of the production company 7th Empire Media, Shalini Kantayya has won the $125,000 MacArthur Documentary Film Grant, awarded to film-makers who employ the use of "exceptional storytelling and in-depth journalism...that contribute to social and policy change"—something that Kantayya, a TED Fellow, strives for in all of her work. Her films and lecture presentations address the intersection of human rights and valuable natural resources to spur real-world impact and enact viable social change. Her new film Solarize This, follows three unemployed Americans and the way that the economic crisis and green economy has affected their lives.
