The In-Between Times: 2012 Weaver Medal of Honor Lecture

On April 25, 2012, Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences hosted the 14th annual Lawrence C. and Delores M. Weaver Medal of Honor Award Ceremony and Lecture. This year’s recipient was Thomas R. Temple. His lecture, "1971-2011: The In-Between Times," addressed the changing landscape of pharmacy and the leaders who have made it happen.


Superior Patient Care at Wester Drug

The clinical programs that Wester Drug has implemented with the help of Dr. Garvin are a shining example of the great programs community pharmacists can offer. When asked how Dr. Garvin spends his time in the pharmacy he replied that he spends “50% patient care, 35% dispensing, 15% management.” Programs and services currently offered by Wester Drug include are innovative ways to demonstrate patient care.

Pharmacists can create value in emerging innovative pharmacy-based services and products by combining principles of entrepreneurship with those of leadership.

In this article, Dr. Tice, the 2005 recipient of the highly esteemed Glaxo-SmithKline/Albert B. Prescott Leadership Award describes the concept of entrepreneurial leadership as it can be applied to the advancement of the profession of pharmacy.

Entrepreneurship in Pharmaceutical Compounding

Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Science students, Ben Kacner, Amanda Weber and Laura Wolf have been conducting research related to pharmaceutical compounding.  They are working in coordination with the Drake Undergraduate Science Collaborative Institute (DUSCI), the Drake Entrepreneurial Leadership Tools for Advancement (DELTA Rx Institute), and Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.


Technological Innovations in Pharmacy Education

The DELTA Rx Institute and Drake University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences believe that invention and innovation are essential tools for success. This belief is incorporated into the Drake curriculum, which implements innovative pharmacy education practices by incorporating technology that creates or simulates real patient care situations.


Next Top Entrepreneur Competition 2012

DELTA Rx and the Drake College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences recently hosted the fifth annual “Drake University Next Top Entrepreneur Competition.”  The competition at Drake, consistent with the DELTA Rx mission, served to foster a spirit of change and innovation amongst Drake students across campus.

2nd Annual Next Top Entrepreneur Competition
