Mike Pursel is the Director of Field Medical and Advocacy Relations for Sanofi Biosurgery in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a graduate of Drake University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy followed by a Masters of Business Administration. He has eighteen years of practice in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, eight years in association management, and thirty-six years as a pharmacist. Throughout his career, Mike has held positions with the Iowa Pharmacy Association, Promethus Laboratories, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Sanofi Biosurgery. His experience includes employer relations, payer and health systems advocacy, professional and patient relations, pharmacy affairs, and professional education. He has also held roles in national account management and as a medical science liaison.
Alongside his pharmacy and business education, Mike has pursued a Certificate in Health Policy from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and additional leadership development and marketing training throughout his career. In his current position, Mike is responsible for interacting with patient advocates and other constituents to determine the needs of specific populations and support the development of patient advocacy within those populations. He works with professional organizations to support disease awareness and education initiatives for disease management in specific populations. Collaboration and education are key objectives as he builds relationships with employers, employer coalitions, national business organizations, payers, and purchasers to create beneficial business opportunities.
Mike is professionally affiliated with multiple medical and advocacy organizations including the Academy of Managed Care, American Pharmaceutical Association, National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, and Iowa Pharmacists Association.
