Mandatory Student Insurance

Drake University requires all full-time domestic students to have health insurance by the first day of classes.  The Drake student health insurance plan information contacts and web links are provided below for those students who choose to enroll in Drake’s insurance over another personal insurance plan.  

Each Domestic full-time undergraduate and graduate student may now go online to Chickering.com to either positively enroll in or waive out of the Drake student health plan. International students may also positively enroll to expedite the student health insurance ID card process but they may not waive out.  

TO POSITIVELY ENROLL INTO THE PLAN AND EXPEDITE YOUR STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE ID CARD CREATION, please do the following online process:

  • Go to: www.chickering.com
  • Click on Find Your School,
  • Type in Drake University
  • Click on the green Drake University link
  • Click on Insurance Selection button.
  • Follow the online directions; make sure under Step 4 that you Click Continue to Enrollment Process link

TO WAIVE OUT OF THE STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN, domestic student will need to do the following online process:

  • Go to: www.chickering.com 
  • Click on Find Your School,
  • Type in Drake University
  • Click on the green Drake University link
  • Click on Insurance Selection button.
  • Follow the online directions; make sure under Step 4 that you Click Continue Waiver Process link
  • Upon clicking the SUBMIT button, a confirmation page will appear that will say WAIVER ACCEPTED or WAIVER DENIED. (If denied, the page will list the reasons why.)  Either way, please print this page for your records as it will have your confirmation number and transaction date number on it.
