Bush will discuss different aspects of his life including: • the reasons behind his decision to pursue a career in the sciences • his work while obtaining a master's degree from Drake • life events such as like marriage Bush has worked for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for 26 years and currently serves as a criminalist and DNA technical leader. "Drake has prepared me for my professional career by giving me the additional tools to perform my job." Bush said. "I believe that it is the combination of all my educational experiences that have prepared me for my current career. " |

As DNA technical leader, Bush manages the technical operations of his section of the laboratory and also handles methods development and quality assurance. His work with DCI also has qualified him to testify more than 350 times in the courtroom. Prior to joining DCI, Bush was a clinical chemist for the University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory (Des Moines Branch Lab) in the Iowa Neonatal Metabolic Screening Program. A program that involves screening all newborn infants in Iowa for four metabolic diseases. Bush received a Master of Arts in biology from Drake in 1994 and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology from Morning Side College in 1980. |

Ann Hornschemeier, graduated from Drake in 1997 with a B.S. in physics and mathematics. She received an M.S. in 1999 and a Ph.D. in 2002, both in astronomy and astrophysics from Pennsylvania State University. She joined NASA in 2004. Her specialization is the study of X-ray emission from star formations. Her presentation "From Drake University to X-Rays in Space," was planned to take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1 of 2007. Her presentation described her career path from a high school student in rural Ohio to a summer participant in the Space Grant Consortium to her current position as deputy project scientist at NASA for the Constellation-X, a space mission due to launch in 2018 |

| Albena Ivanisevich, who graduated from Drake with a BS in Chemistry in 1996, was the first speaker of the series the evening of April 4th, 2006. The title of her seminar was: "The fabrication and characterization of biological and chemical architectures." Albena is currently an assistant professor of chemistry at Purdue University and has been named one of the Top 100 Young Innovators in the world by MIT in 2004. | |
