Undergraduate Research

At Drake University, undergraduate research is an important scholarly activity of faculty and undergraduates in math and science.

Distinct features of the undergraduate research experience at Drake include:

  • Students have the opportunity to be engaged in collaborative research projects between faculty from the College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
  • Students are engaged in research projects with faculty that have collaborations with local public and private institutions.
  • Faculty closely engage students in research through a mentor-apprentice relationship.
  • Students could be engaged in some research projects as early as freshman year.
  • Undergraduates showcase their findings at DUCURS (Drake University Conference on Undergraduate Research in the Sciences).
  • Undergraduates publish their research findings in journals and present their work at local, regional and national conferences.

Academic Year

During the academic year, undergraduates could be engaged in collaborative research with faculty in math and science and obtain course credit or get a stipend through faculty grants. We encourage you to explore the research opportunities in math and science to find out more about research interests of faculty members.
Summer

In the summer, undergraduates in math and science could obtain financial support to conduct research with a faculty advisor at Drake from:

  • On-Campus funding
  • Drake University Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships, deadline for application: March 30, 2007

  • Sigma XI, deadline for proposals: March 15 and October 15
Undergraduate research opportunities in math and science available off-campus
  • Students could apply for internships and fellowships to do research off-campus
  • Beta Beta Beta, opportunities include research grants, travel grants, publications in BIOS journal and presentations at BBB conventions
