Course Overview

3 Semester Hours of Credit

In Lacrosse Coaching 401, coaches will use instructional DVD's, a course textbook, and ancillary research to gain knowledge of the game and assimilate concepts instrumental to becoming a successful lacrosse coach. With guidance from a collection of some of the premier coaches in the sport, you will progress through topics such as "Developing a Philosophy," "Specialties: Man-Up & Man-Down," "Transition," "Planning Practice," and "Managing the Game." Please note: Although some information is universal, this course is specific to men's lacrosse.

Course Goals

After completing this course, students will be able to:

    • Identify the schemes and strategies used by premier lacrosse coaches.
    • Apply the specific schemes and strategies to a lacrosse program.
    • Reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of specific ideas.
    • Understand the importance of adapting your system to the current state of lacrosse (i.e. Rule Changes, Personnel, etc.).
    • Develop a personal coaching philosophy.
