Certificate in Online Teaching Pedagogy

Drake University Extension Education in conjunction with the Iowa AEA Professional Development Online Learning System now offers a certificate in Online Teaching Pedagogy. This is a unique opportunity for educators at all levels to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to become an effective online instructor. The certificate validates that the holder has successfully completed a specific number of required and elective courses that were developed by the Iowa AEA Professional Development Online Learning System as well as others provided by Drake University Extension Education.

In order to receive the certificate, you must take all courses for Drake University Extension Education graduate credit (EDMA). Please contact Chuck Sengstock upon completion of your coursework. He will validate that you have completed the courses and issue your certificate.

The required courses through the Iowa AEA Professional Development Online Learning System are as follows:

  • Assessment, Feedback and Evaluation - 2 Credits, $310 
  • Introduction to the Online Learner - 1 Credit, $155
  • Online Learning Instructional Design - 2 Credits, $310
  • Online Facilitation - 2 Credits, $310
  • Technology for Online Instruction - 2 Credits, $310

Students are required to take a total of six hourse of electives. Elective courses are offered directly through Drake University Extension Education and AEA PD Online. They are as follows:

  • EDMA 223 - Blended and Synchronous Learning Design - 3 credits, $725
