Teaching Reading and Language Arts to Second Language Learners (K-12) (EDDL 234)

3 Semester Hours of Graduate Credit

Course Overview

Despite language and grammar peculiarities, learning a first language seems commonplace. Acquiring a second language, especially beyond the fundamental developmental ages of language acquisition, complicates the process. This course examines theoretical foundations of language acquisition and provides opportunities to learn strategies to promote language development and acquisition as well as improve reading achievement for the second language learner. This course focuses on the SIOP Model and incorporates the Drake Inquiry Project.
