LEAD
Lead is a serious hazard in the workplace. Lead is often found on walls that have been painted with lead paint. Great care must be taken when making repairs or demolishing wall with lead paint. Prior to demolishing walls with lead paint a sample of the wall must be taken and submitted for a Toxic Characteristic Leachate Profile (TCLP). A TCLP is an analytical procedure that identifies how much lead will leachate from the material and pose a hazard.
Lead may only be removed by licensed lead abatement contractors. A notification must be made to the Iowa Department of Public Health prior to the removal of lead. A copy of the notification must be forwarded to the Environmental, Health and Safety office.
For further information see the lead page at EPA
For question concerning lead abatement contact the EHS office.
