Eligibility: Applicant must be an African American female. Must be non-traditional (has not followed the normal progression from high school to college and has returned to the classroom to begin or continue post secondary education). Must be currently attending college and planning to continue during the 2006-2007 school year. Applicant must live in the Des Moines metropolitan area.

Jeannette Rankin Foundation

Award: $2,000 Grants

Eligibility: Applicant must be a woman, a U.S. Citizen, and age 35 or older, as of March 1, 2008. Applicant must be low-income (financial guidelines are available on the application packet), enrolled in, or accepted to, an accredited school, and pursuing a technical/vocational education, an associate's degree, or a first bachelor's degree.

Soroptimist International of Des Moines

Award: $400

Eligibility: Must be a female head of the household, with primary financial responsibility supporting you family (including children, a spouse and parents). Must be attending, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program. Applicant must demonstrate financial need. Note: Previous recipients of the award and students that already have an undergraduate degree are ineligible to apply.

Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund
Deadline: January (Annually) or until 1,000 applications have been received, whichever is earlier
Award: up to $10,000

Eligibility: Must be women currently residing in the United States. Must be women who have earned a high school diploma or their GED at least ten years ago. Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full- or part-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

Wal-Mart Higher REACH Scholarship
Deadline: February (Annually)
Award: $2,000

Eligibility: The Wal-Mart Higher REACH Scholarship is open to non-traditional students who have been employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for at least one year as of February 1. You must have been out of high school for at least one year in order to qualify. Selection will also be determined by financial need, academic record, an essay, and job performance appraisal.
