Great food and music featured at talkabout dinner and concert Friday

Friends of Drake Arts invites you to enjoy a talkabout dinner and concert featuring the Drake Wind Symphony and Drake Concert Band on Friday, Dec. 1.

There will be a gourmet dinner in Levitt Hall in Old Main at 6 p.m. followed by a talk about the concert program presented by Wind Symphony Conductor Robert Meunier. Thompson Brandt, FA'75, and Don Marcouiller, professor emeritus of music and retired director of bands, also will share a synopsis of the history of Drake University bands. The cost for the dinner is $20. For reservations, call 515-271-3147.

Friday's performance is the opening concert in the 36th annual Drake Honor Band Festival. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will start at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Hall, Harmon Fine Arts Center. The program features music by William Schuman, Julie Giroux, Morten Lauridsen, Percy Grainger and other 20th century band composers.

The Drake University Honor Band Festival will continue as high school students from across Iowa perform as members of the Honors Wind Ensemble and Honors Concert Band at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in the Performing Arts Hall, Harmon Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
