Minutes of the Faculty Senate meeting
December 1, 2000
A special meeting of the 2000-2001
Faculty Senate was called to order by President Lou Ann Simpson at 3:05 p.m. The
following Senators were present for all or part of the meeting: Allen, Bartschat,
Gillespie, Honts, Kleiner, Lovell, McCrickerd, Parsa, Phillips Pomeroy, Rankin, Reed,
Reynolds, Simpson, Symonds, Torgerson, Walker, Wright
Absent: Cairns, DeLaet, Sanders
President Simpson outlined the procedure for each action on the agenda. Speakers
from the audience would be allowed to speak first, for three minute intervals, and
then the Senate would discuss the motion.
Secretary’s note: No speakers from the audience requested to address the Senate concerning
any of the motions.
Senator Phillips moved and Parsa seconded motion 01-05
The Adult Learning/Adult Education,
Specialist and Doctoral programs shall be discontinued
The question was asked if there
were any tenured faculty whose position would be affected by this program discontinuance.
The answer was none.
The motion passed. (votes to discontinue = 18; votes to maintain = 0)
Senator Phillips moved and Allen seconded motion 01-06
The Doctoral program in Counseling
shall be discontinued
The question was asked if there
were any tenured faculty whose position would be affected by this program discontinuance.
The answer was none for any of the School of Education motions.
The motion passed. (votes to discontinue = 18; votes to maintain = 0)
Senator Phillips moved and Wright seconded motion 01-07
The Doctoral program in Curriculum
shall be discontinued
The motion passed. (votes to discontinue
= 18; votes to maintain = 0)
Senator Phillips moved and Allen seconded motion 01-08
The Technology Concentration
program – Master’s degree shall be discontinued.
The motion passed. (votes to discontinue
= 18; votes to maintain = 0)
Senator Phillips moved and Allen seconded motion 01-09
The Master of Arts in Biology
program shall be discontinued
The motion passed. (votes to discontinue
= 18; votes to maintain = 0)
Senator Phillips moved and Pomeroy seconded motion 01-10
The Minor in Fine Arts program
shall be discontinued
The motion passed. (votes to discontinue
= 18; votes to maintain = 0)
Senator Phillips moved and Pomeroy seconded motion 01-11
The Interior Architecture program,
formerly Interior Design, shall be discontinued.
The question was addressed that
one tenured faculty position will be affected by this program discontinuance.
The motion passed. (votes to discontinue = 18; votes to maintain = 0)
The meeting adjourned at 3:35 p.m.
