NOTICE: The 2004-2005 Faculty Senate will have their organizational meeting on April 28th at 3:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting will be to elect the Vice President and Executive Committee.

a) Motion: (Re)Create as a standing committee of the Senate J Allen

Budget Committee. The Committee shall be a standing committee of the Faculty Senate. The Committee is charged with monitoring the University budget in order to advise the Senate on budget-related Senate actions. The Committee gathers information on the budget from the Office of Business and Finance and provides that information to the faculty as a whole through reporting to Faculty Senate. The Committee shall consist of the Faculty Senate President and six to eight faculty members appointed by the Faculty Senate Executive Committee. Terms shall be for three years and shall be staggered. Ideally, the members of the Committee will include at least two of the most recent Faculty Senate Presidents and the faculty representatives on the Board of Trustees' Business, Finance and Investments Committee and on the Institutional Advancement Committee

b) Discussion of status of joint venture between SJMC & CBPA
c) Motion concerning Summer Calendar K Schaefer

Be it resolved that each academic unit (school) is empowered to establish its own schedule for summer instruction in order to achieve those pedagogical and instructional environments most conducive to the highest caliber learning in the courses of instruction within its purview, it being understood that no proposed calendar may violate the provisions of the "Guidelines for the Construction of the Drake University Calendar" currently in force or which may be adopted by the Faculty Senate at some future time.

Summer calendars shall be approved by the University Curriculum Committee, as provided for in the Faculty Senate's charge to that committee, and in consultation with such other members of the university community as may be deemed appropriate. Proposed calendars shall be considered according to a timetable to be determined by the members of that committee. Summer calendars that are judged by the UCC to be in violation of the above-mentioned Guidelines will be sent back to the appropriate unit for revision and resubmission according to a schedule to be established by the UCC. The University Curriculum Committee may further establish a system of periodic review of summer calendars in order to assure that such calendars are supportive of the educational mission of the various academic units.
