5.08 INTERCOLLEGIATE
ATHLETIC COUNCIL (Academic Charter)
The Council reports to the Senate and makes recommendations regarding policy
and program. The Council shall give primary consideration to the educational goals
of the University and benefits to students, both participants and spectators. Budgetary
and personnel matters are the responsibility of the administrative officers of the
University.
The Council membership includes the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, an Associate
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Vice President for Business and Finance,
six members of the Faculty of Instruction, three alumni, only one of whom may be
an employee of the University, and three students, two of whom may be participants
in intercollegiate athletics. The Faculty Representative for Intercollegiate Athletics
serves as the Chair of the Council. The Council meets regularly once a month during
the academic year and at other times upon the call of the Chair.

Compliance Subcommittee
The purpose of the Compliance Subcommittee of the Intercollegiate Athletics council
is to review the activities of the Drake University Athletic Department as they relate
to NCAA rules compliance and compliance with Intercollegiate Athletic Council policies.
The Subcommittee will be an oversight committee that reports to the Intercollegiate
Athletics Council and to the Faculty Senate.
The membership of the Athletic Council Subcommittee on Compliance shall be:
- The Faculty Athletics Representative
to the NCAA
- Three Faculty members of the
Athletics Council, serving staggered three-year terms, and appointed by the Senate
Executive Committee
- The Compliance Officer of the
Athletics Department, serving as a non-voting ex officio member
Subcommittee Tasks
The Athletic Council Subcommittee on Compliance shall gather information and audit
Athletic Department processes to ensure compliance with the following: Recruiting,
Eligibility, NCAA Records - squad lists, season declaration, activities reports,
Internal Training - SAAB, compliance education, External Training - booster education,
Scheduling Guidelines, Appeals Committee, Exit Interviews, Letter Awards, Practice
Times
A Two year cycle of review is recommended:
