Harkin Institute Fellows Program

The Harkin Institute Fellows program assembles diverse, insightful professionals to facilitate cooperative, nonpartisan, high-quality research, program development, and education for faculty, scholars, students, and the community in multiple disciplines. Fellows program activities focus on two areas:

  • Electoral and policy-making processes, including the Iowa caucuses.

In December 2014, the Harkin Institute Flansburg Fellow was established through the generosity of an anonymous donor in honor of long-time Des Moines Register political reporter Jim Flansburg. Meet Dennis Goldford, the first Flansburg Fellow, here.

While the issues addressed by the Harkin Institute are drawn from Senator Harkin’s Congressional legacy, the Harkin Institute and its fellows are committed to nonpartisan research and programming consistent with its educational and research mission at Drake University. If you are interested in supporting the work of the Harkin Institute Fellows through a tax-deductible gift, please email us at or click here.
