Honors Student Council Events include:
• Monthly Random-Night Dinners--Come enjoy free dinner and fun conversation with some of Drake's finest Professors and Administrators. Its a great opportunity to experience professors and administrators in a relaxed, enjoyable setting.
• Honors Convocation--AKA. Kick-off Barbeque! Held every fall for the incoming first-year students. This is a great chance to meet and mingle with some of the Honors faculty!
• Stalnaker Lecture Series--Annual lecture series held in the Fall. One faculty member from the School of Arts and Sciences is honored for his or her outstanding research and chosen to present at this lecture series. The College of Arts and Sciences established the annual lecture series to honor the memory of Luther Stalnaker, dean of liberal arts from 1944 to 1955. The emeriti faculty of the college sponsors the series.
• National and Regional Honors Conferences--The Drake Honors Student Council sends a group of active council members to both the National Collegiate Honors Council conference (held in the fall) and the Regional Upper Midwest Honors Council conference (held in the spring). Students will attend workshops and presentation on Honors Program issues and undergraduate research.
• Relays Street Painting--Come join us as we chase each other with gallons of paint, become almost impossible to recognize as anything more than a paint smudge, and miraculously paint a square on the street! This is one event you won't want to miss!
•Hawley Lecture Series--This annual lecture series is held every spring. It exposes students to a broad range of topics presented by prominent, academic intellectuals. The topics vary but usually have a civic or public impact. Past presenters have included writers, educators, activists, and scientific researchers. The Hawley Foundation was established in 1927 by Des Moines businessman Henry B. Hawley and his wife, Carrie. Sponsors include Drake's Honors Program, Honors Student Council, Center for the Humanities and the Department of Psychology.
• Honors Program Faculty of the Year Award--The Honors Student Council decides from the nominations on the faculty member who will receive this award. The recipient will present at the Honors awards ceremony for the graduating seniors prior to commencement.
