character in the workplace character at work

We are pleased to partner with many Iowa companies who are putting CHARACTER COUNTS! to use in their business by including the Six Pillars of Character in their company's values and educating their staff and boards on making ethical decisions.

Good employees have both moral and performance character. What expectations do you have for your employees or co-workers so that everyone is successful?

  • Think outside the box
  • Establish productive and positive relationships
  • Indentify and manage priorities
  • Serve a cause greater than ourselves
  • Seek a healthy life balance
  • Know yourself and have a go-to ethical code
  • Make excellence your goal

See some sample compenencies that illustrate these expectations.

Discussion Starter

Here is a great discussion starter to use with the staff at your organization.

You are new in a position that requires a large amount of travel, many times by rental car. One of your peers informs you that he has been renting cars for travel, but instead of turning in the expense of the rental, he is turning in expenses for mileage for a personal vehicle instead. By doing this he "earns" money on some of his higher mileage trips. He explains that turning in mileage is standard practice and that it is a legitimate expense. He encourages you to do the same thing to "reward" you for a much higher travel load than others.

What do you do?
