The Institute for Character Development annually recognizes individuals and organizations that have proven exemplary in modeling the Six Pillars of Character in their communities.
Nominations for the 2008 Iowa Character Awards will be accepted until June 14, 2008. The 2008 Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 in West Des Moines, IA.
AWARD CATEGORIES:
Business/Organization of Character Award: Presented to an organization that embodies and demonstrates the Six Pillars of Character in its professional culture and climate.
Citizen of Character Award (Adult & Youth): Presented to an individual whose actions demonstrate and model continuous commitment to the Six Pillars of Character. A Citizen of Character Award will be presented in each of the following age groups: Adult, Age 16-18, Age 13-15 and Age 10-12.
CHARACTER COUNTS! Community Award: Presented to an Iowa community that has developed an active community task force and a comprehensive, sustained community wide initiative to support the Six Pillars of Character and have integrated character development throughout the entire community.
Educator of Character Award: Presented to an educator or s a school administor who teaches and models the Six Pillars of Character and has impacted students through innovative character development and education in their subject areas.
Pursuing Victory With Honor Award: Presented to an athletic team or organization that demonstrates and models commitment to the Six Pillars of Character.
Schools of Character Award (Elementary, Middle & High): Presented to schools who have developed and sustained a comprehensive character development initiative to positively impact the culture and climate at the school.
SELECTION COMMITTEE:
If you would like to serve on the 2008 Iowa Character Awards Selection Committee, please click here to download a sign up form.
Selection Committee members will be responsible for the following:
*Immediately following the nomination deadline (June 14, 2008), committee members will be asked to review a list of
nominees and eliminate themselves from any category in which there could be a conflict of interest (e.g. knowing the nominee). Committee members will then be assigned to an award category.
*Committee members will receive copies of the nominations for their assigned category. Selection Committee members have approximately 3 weeks to review the nomination forms. Nomination form review may take approximately 2-5 hours.
*The Selection Committee will meet on July 16, 2008 to discuss the nominations and determine winners for each category. This mandatory meeting will be held from 5-8 pm at the W. Des Moines Marriott.
*Detailed instructions and resources will be provided to all committee members to assist in the selection process.
