Major Requirements

Drake’s IS program offers an IS major within the Zimpleman College of Business as well as an IS minor for students outside of the college. Our program reinforces classroom instruction with hands-on student experiences. Our dedicated faculty are committed to providing high-quality instruction with small class sizes to prioritize professor-student interactions and facilitate individual student learning.  IS students have the opportunity to learn methodologies, applications, and tools used by Fortune 500 firms.  All of our students gain valuable experience in 1) systems analysis and design, 2) database management, and 3) application development.

In addition to the major, an Information Systems minor is available. 

The Drake Curriculum

The Drake Curriculum, required of all undergraduates, is designed to help students meet personal and professional goals as they acquire fundamental knowledge and abilities in ten Areas of Inquiry, including communication, critical thinking, artistic experience, historical consciousness, information and technology literacy, international and multicultural experiences, scientific and quantitative literacy, values and ethics and engaged citizenship. Students work closely with their academic advisers to craft a program of study in general education that prepares students for civic and professional leadership.

The Drake Curriculum also requires first-year seminars, which foster development of critical thinking and written and oral communication skills through a topical focus; and a Senior Capstone, in which students demonstrate the capacity to bring information, skills and ideas to bear on one project. Academic Preparation 

Information Systems does not require specific courses for enrollment in the program. However, successful students have typically had prior experience with technologies and taken multiple high school courses in mathematics.
