Central Mission of the Organization:

Starpac is dedicated to political action against the weapons race. Starpac works to educate Iowans on peace issues, influence legislation in Congress and actively support candidates who are dedicated to peace.

History of the Organization:

Starpac was formed in 1980 by two small groups of individuals from several different peace groups. It now has approximately 1500 Iowans that have contributed either time or money to help elect Starpac endorsed candidates.

International Issues and Focus:

Urge abandonment of economic sanctions against Iraq.
Discourage "Bomb Diplomacy" in dealing with Kosovo, East Timor, etc.
Promote reduction of US NATO Forces and oppose expansion of NATO.
Promote normalization of relations with Cuba.
Oppose Pentagon overspending.
Promote abolishment of nuclear weapons.
Support taking nuclear weapons off alert status.
Strengthen global security through arms control and disarmament.

Candidate forums on peace issues.
Sponsor statewide speaking tours.
Endorse candidates for president and congress.
Get out the vote campaigns.

Membership:

$25 annual fee.
