I made it, now what?!

After You've Been Accepted
  1. Make flight and other travel arrangements (Independently or with your program?) Look into STA Travel!
  2. Read the Guidelines Brochure. It contains all of the official Drake policy on studying abroad. You MUST read this before you go abroad.
  3. Sign Study Abroad Contract
  4. Attend Pre-Departure Orientation. There is a Drake Handbook with some useful information on studying and living abroad.
  5. Check on your insurance coverage for you time abroad
  6. Purchase an International Student Identity Card (It includes some insurance too)
  7. Meet with your adviser to plan your registration for your return semester
  8. Pack - be sure to take a Drake hat/t-shirt/sweatshirt!
  9. Stay in touch with your adviser while abroad (once or twice should be enough!) to be sure your course planning is well-arranged.
  10. Have a nice flight!
  11. and the experience of a lifetime!

 

While You're There
  1. Keep a journal and take photos! Get a great shot of yourself (in your Drake t-shirt, of course!) on the Great Wall of China, in front of the Brandenburg Gate or with a kindergarten class in London! Then you'll be ready for the Study Abroad Photo Contest or to help us jazz up this web site!
  2. Write home. (Minimize e-mail if you want to maximize your international experience!)
  3. Return to Drake with new perspectives, new friends, new language skills, new knowledge!
  4. Come to a Re-Entry Get Together at the International Center where people will want to hear EVERYTHING about your time abroad.
  5. Enter the Study Abroad Photo Contest
  6. Encourage other students to go abroad
  7. Make plans for your future!
