The Office of Information Technology provides the following guidelines, recommendations, and links for purchasing personal computers:


Personal Computer Purchases

The Office of Information Technology is working with computer hardware and software vendors to provide students, faculty, and staff with recommendations for purchasing computer equipment and software. While developing recommendations, OIT staff consider three factors: Compatibility with technology Drake is currently purchasing for general desktop use; an anticipated 3 to 4 year life cycle; and cost.

Faculty and staff who want to purchase a new computer for their office or department should contact their department chair. The recommendations below may be useful in selecting a system appropriate for their needs.

Students, faculty, and staff who want to purchase a computer for their personal use should also find the recommendations below useful. In addtion, there are links at the bottom of the web page that provide special access to Apple and Dell web stores. Items listed on these sites are discounted.

Where possible, OIT staff have also arranged price discounts. Links to special web sites for Apple and Dell are provided below.
