Operating System Updates - Windows XP pre SP2

Following are the procedures for configuring Automatic Updates for service packs and security patches in Windows XP.

1) Click Start and then right-click on the My Computer menu option.
2) On the popup menu click Properties. 

3) In the System Properties window click on the Automatic Updates tab.
4) Select Keep my computer up to date. 
5) Choose Automatically download the updates, and install them on the schedule that I specify.
6) Set the recommended schedule: Every day at a time the computer is on, but not normally in use.
