Locked E-mail lists for Instructional and Administrative Announcements
Network & Technical Services, in conjunction with Campus Information Systems, maintains lists of all Drake students, faculty and staff. These lists are updated on a daily basis and are made available to assist in communicating information to the University community. Access to these lists is tightly controlled and requires a username and password. Please note that the lists are for Drake University business purposes only and should be used accordingly.
To register for routine access to the student, faculty and staff lists, please send an e-mail message to noc@drake.edu that includes the name, e-mail address and computer type (Windows/Macintosh) of the faculty or staff member needing to send the bulk mail. By the end of the next business day, the individual will receive instructions via e-mail on how to access the lists.
General purpose web-managed E-mail lists
E-mail lists may be established for faculty, staff and student organizations to receive announcements and discuss topics of common interest over e-mail. Once a list is set up, participants may subscribe, unsubscribe and send messages to the list recipients. A web-based mailing list service called Mailman is now available.
The service offers a number of improvements over what we have offered in the past:
- Users may subscribe and sign off using a web interface.
- Users may manage their subscription options using password-protected access.
- Users may request that a password reminder be sent to their e-mail address.
- Users may receive a monthly reminder of their passwords.
- Users may receive messages in digest form.
- Users may access a message archive organized by month.
For more information or to have a list set up, please contact Patsy Johnson via e-mail at patsy.johnson@drake.edu or x2453. You will need to provide a list name and the name of the person who will be responsible for the list. You will need to include a very brief description of the mailing list. Also, you will need to provide an introductory description - a few paragraphs - about the mailing list. Optionally, you may include a welcome message to be sent to each participant when he or she subscribes. This message may contain information about the purpose of the list, usage etiquette, office hours, and other details.
For more information on how to use Mailman visit, please see our instructions.
