CyberCaucus 2000 Staff

The staff of CyberCaucus 2000 consists of students from two courses at Drake University — Writing and Reporting for the Web (J-103) and Public Affairs Reporting (J-171). The students are responsible for reporting, writing, editing and designing the work on this site. Both courses are taught by Robert D. Woodward, Ellis and Nelle Levitt Distinguished Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication.

William J. Chamberlain

Bill Chamberlain

"Wild Bill" Chamberlain is a senior news-editorial major from Lake City, Iowa. He is an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity at Drake University and enjoys spending his time keeping an eye on the Drudge Report and taking in his daily hour of "The Simpsons." He is also an avid fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Yankees. After graduation, Wild Bill looks forward to becoming ruler of all space and time. This is his first time on the Internet, so please be gentle. Bill is currrently a writer/researcher for hatewatch.org.

Mike Decaire

Mike Decaire

Mike Decaire is a senior news-editorial and English major from North St. Paul, Minn. Mike served as executive editor of Drake University's The Times-Delphic for the 1998-99 school year, and he has worked as a copy editor for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He also has a personal Web site. In his spare time, Mike enjoys the poetry of Gary Soto, the music of Grant Lee Buffalo, the movies of Al Pacino and the humor of "The Simpsons." Mike will soon begin working at the The Topeka Capital-Journal as a copy editor and designer.

Katie Thaman

Katie Thaman is a senior news-editorial major from St. Louis, Mo. She currently works for The Cedar Rapids Gazette in its Des Moines bureau. Katie has also worked for Drake University's Times-Delphic, where she was news editor her sophomore year, the Des Moines Metro Arts Alliance and the St. Louis Suburban Journals. She will graduate in May and hopes to find a job writing news and/or features for a newspaper. Her hobbies include reading, writing, listening to music and watching movies.

Bertha Cerda

Bertha Cerda

Bertha Eugenia Cerda is a second-year news-editorial student at Drake University. She was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, but lives permanently in Brownsville, Texas. She graduated from Lopez High School, the home of the Lobos, in May 1997. She first came to Drake in August '97, making the decision to come here from the catalogs and brochures that Drake sent her constantly. Bertha set foot at Drake for the first time on Aug. 20, 1997. Since then she has become the president of La Fuerza Latina, a features writer for the The Times-Delphic student newspaper, a writer for Drake Magazine, a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, and a pledge of Alpha Phi Omega, where she was chosen to be one of the fellowship chairwomen of the spring '99 pledge class.

Tom Cronin

Tom Cronin is a sophomore news-editorial major at Drake University. He is the online editor of The Times-Delphic, Drake's student newspaper. Click here to view Cronin's T-D profile. Stacy Green

Stacy Green, originally from southeast Iowa, is a senior journalism and sociology major at Drake University. She is currently interning for the Institute for Character Development, editing its newsletter and freelancing for the Urbandale Press Citizen. After graduation, Stacy plans to marry and work for a magazine in Des Moines. Eventually, she and her future husband hope to relocate to Indianapolis.

Anne West

Anne West is a sophomore studying advertising and magazine journalism at Drake University. In addition to her contribution to the design of the site, Anne also has a knack for turning in everything late. Anne is originally from Fargo, N.D., which, of course, makes her a first-class smart ass.

Becki White

Becki White

Becki White is a sophomore from Arvada, Colo., majoring in news-editorial journalism and graphic design at Drake University. She spends most of her time at her internship at Better Homes and Gardens Online or playing rugby with Drake's women's rugby club. She became interested in the Internet her freshman year after experimenting with HTML Web page design language. She hopes to work in Internet-based journalism in the future and help to redefine the Internet newspaper.

BJ White

Hailing from Deerfield, Ill., BJ White is a junior public relations major at Drake University. He is a passionate sports enthusiast and a huge fan of all Drake athletic teams. A member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, BJ seeks to land his first communications internship this summer as he plans to stay in the Des Moines area. His hobbies include bowling, volleyball, tennis, golf, watching ESPN and talking to people in person.
