Bone-chilling weather swept across the Midwest early this week. Temperatures fell into the teens, and the wind chill was below zero.

"I hate this weather," Matt McClure (B1) said. "I was in Tulsa this past weekend for a tennis tournament, and it was 75 degrees."

"I don't like cold weather," said Valerie Rosberg (AS1), who is a native Iowan.

The temperatures were in the upper 60s in Des Moines this weekenend, and according to some, that makes it even harder. "I just hate the fact that it was a tease," Jim Burgant (AS1) said. "It was so nice to see people outside playing ultimate Frisbee and football this past weekend. And it is even worse because I forgot my coat at home last weekend."

Temperatures dropped from the mid 60s to the mid 20s within hours on Sunday. Conditions worsened as the days went on, and by Tuesday the high was 18 degrees. "You never know what is going to hapen," Rosburg said. "One winter is really bad, and another can be really nice, but normally it is one way or the other."

"If it is going to be this cold, I just wish it would snow more," Connie Wonnenburg (P1) said. It snowed for a brief time on Monday night, but accumulations were less than an inch. No more snow is in the forecast for the next seven days.

While the weather looks better for the latter half of the week, students just have to find a way to deal wih the cold conditions for the next couple of days. "I had to pull out all of my sweaters, sweatshirts and sweatpants,"Wonnenburg said, "but you got to do what you got to do."

"I just have to walk faster to class," Rosburg said. "They all seem to be even further away with this cold weather."

"It's times like these that make you appreciate a small campus,"McClure said. "I feel bad for the people at Iowa and Iowa State."

According to the National Weather Service, the temperatures are expected to climb a little into the upper 30s this weekend, but another cold front will come through Iowa on Monday.
