Knowledge will forever govern ignorance. And a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives. A popular government without popular information or the means of acquiring it is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy, or perhaps both.

— James Madison, 1822

The Iowa FOI Council, in conjunction with the Iowa Newspaper Foundation, is hosting a series of "webinars" on journalism and FOI issues. The program received funding from the National Freedom of Information Coalition through a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. As they are completed, the webinars — on media law, covering "courts and cops," and open meetings and records laws — are archived and available online at the Iowa Newspaper Association Web site.
