In General:
Woodward is a great guy and wonderful addition to the Drake SJMC faculty. It's awesome having someone in Iowa with such great historical and journalistic ties! His age will never get in the way of his passion for the net and technology. -Adam Ghassemi, Senior
Favorite/Funniest Memories of Woodward:
Probably dragging myself from G-K to Meredith before 8:30 Tuesday and Thursday mornings...and hear him say..."Helloooo" in that classic voice. -Adam Ghassemi, Senior

Office and Appearance:
I think it's awesome. He's comfortable and never really cared about what others thought - he's a great role model for impressionable freshmen. -Adam Ghassemi, Senior
Favorite/Funniest Memories:
My years at Drake were wonderful and I enjoyed each and every one of Professor Woodward’s classes. He helped me decide on news editorial as a major and was an inspiration to me. . . Thank you! -Lisa (Fedie) Geiger (JO '92); Mktg. Communications Manager for Baxter Healthcare Corporation
One of the many things I will always remember about
Professor Woodward is how he never forgot a name or face. From the first
day of J-30 to my last
day at
Drake, he always called me by name and never missed an opportunity to say
'hello' and ask how I was doing. It was nice to know he cared enough to remember.
-Kelly
Nass (JO '99); Assistant Production Coordinator
for NBC comedy Scrubs)
I had a wonderful honors class with Prof. Woodward that took a look at media and rhetoric from the Cold War through Reagan and Star Wars. I had already gained so much from my previous writing class with Prof. Woodward. What a gift to be able to learn so much history from him as well. -Jill (Lingwall) Farmer (JO '91); Former Reporter and Anchor KTVI TV, St. Louis, MO Stay-at-home mother and freelance journalist
There is his almost-alarming name-recognition abilities. I think I was not the first freshman to be taken aback when Woodward knew my name about 2.6 seconds after I first entered Meredith Hall. -Adrienne McFarland (JO '02)
When I was a senior in college I was very ill and in the hospital. Woodward came and visited me— even brought me a book about news... of course. -Katy Karger (JO ’03); Public Relations Account Coordinator
Favorite Memories:
Prof. Woodward would almost bankrupt me each year when I was dean with his photocopying costs. Luckily I was not dean anymore when he took over my course, JMC 30, and photocopied for the entire class. -Michael R. Cheney; Professor, Dean, Associate Provost 1981 - 2001

When I was a student I called the Lt. Gov. a Republican because the governor was a Republican, so I thought he was too. When I got my paper back, scribbled in three inch letters in the corner was 'Acccuracy, Accuracy, Accuracy.' -Jill Van Wyke
When I think of Professor Woodward, instant
images appear in my mind. These images may be as random as a red pick-up
truck parked in the wee hours of the morning in the Olmsted pay-lot, or of
a dedicated professor grading paper after paper, long hours at a school desk
outside of his office late in the semester. Primarily though, the image that
comes to mind is of students. These and many
others experienced Drake University and exciting personal change
with the mentorship of a faculty member who challenged them to be liberally
educated and intellectually creative, Professor Robert D. Woodward!
