About Angela Renkoski
Assistant professor Angela K. Renkoski heads up a first-time program
between Drake and Meredith Corporation. In 2003, five students will earn
academic credit while working 15-20 hours a week in various areas of
Meredith. Renkoski teaches the supporting class and oversees the apprentices’ work
in conjunction with their Meredith supervisors in magazine publishing,
integrated marketing, and interactive media. In addition, Renkoski teaches
a magazine editing course and a course on creating magazines, including
a business plan and 16-page Quark-designed prototype.
Renkoski brings with her more than 20 years of experience in journalism.
She worked at Meredith Corporation for nearly 10 years in various divisions,
such as Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publications, Country
Home, and Books. She was the first copy chief for both Country Home and
Traditional Home magazines. She now continues to do freelance editing.
Her Meredith clients include publications for Meredith’s Integrated Marketing
Group and Special Interest Publications. She has also done work for Two
Rivers Marketing Co., Readers Digest Association books, BH Management
Services, the Home Warehouse Internet Web site, Fodor’s books, and Ortho
Books. Her work experience includes stints on the copy desk for the Columbia
Missourian and the Wilmington News Journal in Delaware.
She has been an adjunct professor and a visiting instructor at Drake
for three years. From 1997-2000, Renkoski taught magazine journalism
courses at Iowa State University. In addition, she has taught English
at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Dodge City Community College
in Kansas.
Renkoski has an M.A. in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia,
and an M.A. in English from the same university. She graduated magna
cum laude in 1977 with a B.A. in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia,
where she also was a inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
When she’s not teaching, Renkoski enjoys going on RAGBRAI, following
St. Louis Cardinals baseball, playing tennis, and reading novels. She
has two sons, Ben and Nick, who are attending college at the University
of Missouri-Columbia.
