About Dr. Strentz

Herbert Strentz, professor. Ph.D., Northwestern University, 1970.

Professor Strentz teaches undergradate courses in news reporting and communication law and ethics and graduate seminars in social responsibility, information policy and research and writing.

For 24 years Strentz was executive secretary of the Iowa Freedom of Information Council. He regularly contributes essays and opinion pieces to newspapers and magazines and writes a column on First Amendment issues for the Iowa Newspaper Association.

He is the author of News Reporters and News Sources published by the Iowa State University Press and distributed around the world by the U.S. Information Service in Chinese, French, Arabic and Spanish translations.

Strentz is vice president of Quill and Scroll, the international scholastic journalism honor society. He also is the only person to receive both the Distinguished Service Award from the Iowa Newspaper Association and Hall of Fame recognition from the Iowa Broadcasters Association.
