Welcome to the home page of Journalism 101, "Reporting Practicum," in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout the Fall Semester 2000, this page will be used to provide interesting Internet links, materials for classroom discussion, and information on your reporting and writing assignments. You should check here often--certainly before you come to class each Tuesday and Thursday--to see if new information is available.

American Journalism Review Here's an excellent resource for articles on journalism--including a continuing series
on the state of the American newspaper.

Dallas Morning News This newspaper is doing an excellent job of reporting on the Republican presidential nominee, Gov. George W. Bush of Texas.

Iowa Official Register Use this site to learn about Iowa state government and to get ideas for possible features to meet your story requirements.

Poynter Online Visit the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla., for a 48-page seminar on producing, editing & designing online news and read the article on "Guidelines for Interviewing Juveniles."

Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics For class discussions and your own understanding, go directly to the SPJ site the group's code of ethics. And visit Poynter Online for an article on "Codes of Ethics...and Beyond." Visit the site of the American Society of Newspaper Editors to find links to a collection of newspaper codes of ethics from around the country.
