Deadline Time in Journalism 54: Searching
for a Snowstorm on the Drake Campus

On Wednesday, Jan. 30, students in Prof. Robert D. Woodward's beginning reporting class were told to report and to write on deadline a story on the coming of the first snowstorm of the season to central Iowa and the Drake University campus.

They checked the National Weather Service site on the World Wide Web for the latest storm projections, then went out on campus for the initial interviews. Back in the warmth of the Meredith 124B classroom, they talked through their stories and wrote them to meet a 9:45 a.m. deadline. They all survived their first deadline stories of the semester; they are seen below working on their first weather stories.

And in the end, it snowed.
