March 9, 1999 - Internship Workshop
Present at this meeting: Christy Durand, Meagan Ellingson, Lisa Hunt, and B.J. White.
This very small executive meeting consisted mainly of B.J. letting us know what happened at the National Assembly. However, before B.J. made his presentation Meagan told us that we have about $200 from JMC clothing orders. She also said that $160 check should be coming from concessions soon. We also made the decision to go ahead and get a concession stand for relays. We have the potential to make a lot of money that day.
We also noticed that we only got two applications from people who want to be on exec next year. So we brainstormed about people we think would like to be more involved and who we would like to join us and dispersed their names among ourselves to call.
Next was B.J. he told us that this assembly was the biggest yet with about 120 people. The biggest thing that was voted on was an increase in dues. The rate is now up three dollars from $38. We have yet to make a decision on whether or not our chapter will raise along with that or keep it the same. The reason for the increase is for more professional information. Also the new national committee was voted on, none of the officers were really known to us, but the president will be Gina Presco. The editor of Forum (PRSSA newsletter) will be Laura Jansen, she is from UNI so the Forum will be based out of Cedar Falls, this should get us the opportunity to contribute a little easier. One of the other thoughts that B.J. came back with was that we need to make better use of our professional advisor, Kevin Waetke. Kevin wants to be involved and has a wealth of resources available to him, we should involve him more.
National PRSSA is also already beginning to promote the National Conference that will be held in Anaheim, California. We will convey more specifics as they become available. The next meeting will be March 30 in Meredith 102 at 9 p.m. we will be voting on officers for next school year. It's important that you make the decision and know who your exec will be next year. Everyone is invited.
Have A Great Spring Break!
March 2, 1999 - Executive Council Meeting
Present at this meeting: LuAnn Christoffers, Christy Durand, Meagan Ellingson, Jerold Gross, Lisa Hunt, B.J. White, and Advisor - Milam.
Since we have now started selling t-shirts and other J-School appearal we discussed who would be able to go to which classes to promote the clothes. After we ran out of classes between us, we stopped and said that we would get a list of classes from Clarice tomorrow and go from there.
Next LuAnn asked whether or not we would still like to do PRSSA awards. We decided that we would like to do them and they will be held Tuesday, April 27. The exec is to think about ideas for awards and e-mail them to LuAnn throughout the week.
Finally we discussed what would be happening for the next meeting. Since it is March and most companies are beginning to look for summer interns and students are beginning to look for summer internships, we will be talking about internships. What is available this summer and what people have experienced with internships in the past. Again, we talked about which classes would be best to really promote this meeting in. The internship discussion will take place Tuesday, March 9 at 9:00 p.m. in Meredith 102.
February 16, 1999 - Executive Council Meeting
Present at this meeting: LuAnn Christoffers, Christy Durand, Jerold Gross, and Lisa Hunt.
The main thing that we covered at this very brief meeting was who would be able to work a table to sell SJMC appearal and at what times. We have decided on a number of different times and we want to make sure that there is an executive member at each time slot. We will open up the selling list to members at the next general meeting which will be held Tuesday, February 23 at 9:00 p.m. in Meredith 102.
The next meeting will be a roundtable with discussion. The panelists that we have invited are Carlyn Crow from IPTV, Julie Shepard from Relationship Marketing, and Amber Weaver from Des Moines Children's Chorus.
We also quickly discussed the new chapter regulations and the fact that we can continue being a chapter.
February 2, 1999 - Executive Council Meeting
Present at this meeting: LuAnn Christoffers, Christy Durand, Meagan Ellingson, Jerold Gross, Lisa Hunt, B.J. White, and Advisor - Milam.
The first item of business was fund-raising. Even though an e-mail went out about open concession spots we still need help on Feb. 11 and 17 for the later shifts, 6:30-9:30. Also we got price quotes from the company that printed the T-shirts and pants, $5.53 for the short sleeved T-shirt we will sell them at $10, $9.58 for the long sleeved T-shirts we will sell them at $14, and $14 for the scrub pants we will sell them at $18.
Next LuAnn informed us that our publicity chair, Crystal Smith, has resigned and her responsibilities have been split among the EC members. LuAnn will do posters and PRSSA e-mails will be sent out by Lisa.
Jerold informed us that everything is set up for the PRSSA resume workshop which will be Tuesday, February 9 at 9 p.m. in Meredith 103. Betsy Grove, from the Career Center, will be doing the workshop with a powerpoint presentation.
Finally we discussed changes in the Feb. 23 roundtable and decided that our March 9 general meeting would be on summer internships.

Welcome Back! New and returning PRSSA members. This was our first meeting of the spring semester. It was a fairly short meeting just to go over the plan for this semester and what plans are already in the making.
Schedules for what has been planned for this semester were handed out and we then went over them. A couple of exciting and important things that are coming up are the Regional PRSSA Conference that will be held at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, February 19-21. If you would like more information or would like to sign-up contact LuAnn Christoffers at 279-5429. She also has a CD-ROM that you can check out that has information on it. Another conference that should be warm is the National Assembly which will be held in San Francisco, CA, March 11-14. If you would like to go as a delegate write up a page about why you want to go and what you expect to learn while at the conference and either hand it to Henry Milam or put it in the PRSSA mailbox by the Journalism office in Meredith.
Next Meghan Ellingson our fund-raising chair told us that time slots were still open to work concessions at the February 11 and 17 basketball games. So if you can help us out we would greatly appreciate it. Contact Meghan Ellingson at x 2291. She also showed us the T-shirts and scrub pants that we will be selling for all of the J-School. We will begin taking orders as soon as the executive council gets prices set and the selling schedule set.
Finally, Christy Durand mentioned something that will be open only to PRSSA paid members, it is a file of things for bulletin boards. Some of you may be in collaterals, and if you arenąt you may be soon. This file would be very helpful it you are looking for ideas as to what to do for your bulletin board. Also at our next general meeting we will have more information on some committees that we need help with.
If you are considering joining PRSSA we would love to have you. Fees for PRSSA are $45 and will be due sometime soon. Come join us at the next general meeting which will be a very informative resume workshop on February 9 at 9 p.m. It will be in Meredith, but we are not sure what room yet, look for more information coming soon.
January 19, 1999 - Executive Council meeting
Present at this meeting: LuAnn Christoffers, Christy Durand, Meghan Ellingson, Jerold Gross, Lisa Hunt, B.J. White, and Advisor-Henry Milam.
As the first executive meeting of the spring semester we met at The Drake Diner. However, we did manage to do some business. Meghan Ellingson informed us that the samples of the shirts and scrub pants that we are selling should be delivered tomorrow. We will start setting up so people can order as soon as possible.
We talked a lot about what the general meetings would be like. We discussed that Betsy Grove will be doing the Feb. 9 resume workshop. We also talked about the Internal Communications general meeting that will be held February 23. We are hoping to get Julia to come in and speak on the Meredith Corp. internal magazine and someone from MidAmerican to tell us about their intranet.
Finally, we talked about a few random pieces of information. Applications for San Francisco will go out next week. Weąd like to create a file of stuff for bulletin boards for PRSSA members to use for collaterals. LuAnn asked if any of us wanted to be national officers. And the question was asked if we knew anyone who could be in the PRSSA Hall of Fame. To end it all we finished our malts and went out into the cold.
