Drake student receives award from Des Moines
Ad Pros
Senior advertising major Lauren Albracht received
the Wesley Day memorial scholarship from the Des Moines Ad Pros
during the ADDY awards show on February 25. The
Wesley Day scholarship recognizes intelligence,
creative thinking and a knowledge-based approach
to advertising, as well as the student's leadership,
character and commitment to Iowa. Lauren's winning
entry was a parody of Volkswagen's 1960's ad "Think
Small." She promoted herself through
an ad called "Think Copy" that highlighted
her copywriting skills and stressed that copy should
play a larger
role in advertising than visual effects, which
seem to currently dominate the industry. Jon
Miller, Ad Pros college liaison, said Lauren's
advertisement was "an instant favorite" of
the panel of judges.
The Advertising Professionals of Des Moines awards
one or more scholarships for upper-class students
demonstrating a potential for professional achievement
in advertising. The Erik Isgrig Scholarship is
also awarded to upper-class students majoring in
advertising. The Beth Walters Peterson Award is
an annual prize given to a JMC student for outstanding
accomplishment in copywriting. |
