The
members of the journalism faculty have solid professional
experience and strong academic credentials as well.
The Electronic Media program is led by Ellis and Nelle Levitt Professor of Journalism, John Lytle. John Lytle holds
degrees from Iowa State University in Telecommunicative
Arts and Journalism and Mass Communication.At Drake since 1977, Lytle coordinates the Broadcast News sequence and teaches other production and reporting courses. Lytle previously worked for the Extension Service broadcast media in Pennsylvania, for radio and television stations in Knoxville, Ames and Sioux City, IA, and announced for AFN-Stuttgart. He's a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Radio-Television News Directors Association, the Iowa Broadcast News Association, and the Northwest Broadcast News Association. Todd Evans has juggled multiple duties as a faculty member
and administrator since arriving at Drake in 1984.
He has taught every course offered in the Radio/TV
major, and regularly teaches Popular Music and Culture
classes, including seminars on the Lives and Times
of Rock and Roll, The Sixties, and The Beatles. Todd is past-chair of the Communication Technology division, and past-chair of the Juried Faculty Production Competition, for the Broadcast Education Association. Todd's research interests include digital audio for video production and post-production, the culture of popular music, and new media for distributed learning,. He keeps professionally active in both audio and video production, and his work has been recognized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Broadcast Education Association, and the American Cancer Society. As Director of the Drake TeleMedia Center, from 1995 – 2002, Todd was responsible for the overall operations of The College Channel, a 24 hour a day educational access channel within Des Moines, multiple dedicated programming channels on the Drake campus, satellite downlinking and distribution, live studio program production supervision, and live remote television production supervision. He served as the Executive Producer for the Kurt Kanaskie, and Lisa Stone coach's shows, as well as a variety of sports, fine arts and specialty live productions. Todd also served the School of Journalism and Mass Communication as Associate Dean from 1988 - 1995. Education: Bachelor of Arts, Radio and Television, Columbia College, 1974. Master of Arts, Electronic Media, Western Illinois University, 1983. Gary Wade teaches courses in broadcast management,
corporate video planning and analysis, continuity writing,
television methods for advertising majors and introductory
television. He also teaches graduate courses in social
responsibility and the media. Wade is a member of the Broadcast Education Association and the International Television Association. His research areas of interest include television programming and its effects, children's television, multimedia development and sports broadcasting.
