She may be the newbie on the SJMC Faculty, but Sandy Henry is a
familiar face in Meredith Hall. For nearly
12 years, she was the TV/Multimedia Producer in Drake's
TeleMedia Center, where she wrote and produced projects
for every medium imaginable. Prior to that,
she was a creative for a Des Moines-based advertising
agency - she'd name the agency, but its name has
changed almost as many times as the name of the bank
down the road. Her clients covered the spectrum,
from a major grocery store chain, to a non-profit
arts organization, to one of the world's largest
agricultural seed companies. Sandy has won
many awards for her work, including Addys, Tellys,
and CASE Awards. But, to date, her most memorable
project was a campaign for a national feed company,
involving additives given to pregnant hogs to "aid" their
digestion and elimination. Needless to say,
the campaign didn't stink, but researching the subject
matter was a fragrant affair.
Henry received her B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from
Drake, and a Master of Science in Mass Communication
from Miami University - the one in Ohio, not in Florida. Did
you know Miami (OH) was founded long before Miami
(FL)? More than 100 years before the Hurricanes,
as a matter of fact. (Be the first to raise
your hand in class with that tidbit and you'll get
extra credit.)
Sandy is an Apple Certified Trainer (Final Cut Pro) and is active
with the Broadcast Education Association and the
Iowa Association of Communication Technology. In
her spare time, she enjoys running, music, hack gardening,
and the NFL, when in season.
