Summer in France Costs & Scholarships

Costs

The fee for the 2024 summer program will be $8,000. The fee covers 6 law school credit hours, a studio apartment, class-related visits and enrichment activities, and some meals.

Program participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Nantes, transportation while in and around Nantes, and food during the program. Students are encouraged to make airline reservations well in advance.

Students who plan to cover the program costs through loans must apply for those funds at the law school where they are currently enrolled.

Scholarships

Donald Craib Scholarship

The Donald Craib Scholarship will be awarded to a student who has a demonstrated financial need and a passion to study and practice international law. The student should describe how the Summer in France program will have a significant impact on his or her career. The scholarship will cover part of the cost of the program.

Drake Global Learning Scholarships

These scholarships are designed to enable students to reach their full potential as responsible global citizens. Nearly all scholarships are financial need based but have slightly different selection criteria. Click below for more information.

Alliance Française of Central Iowa Travel Scholarship

This travel scholarship (up to $500) will be awarded based on the recipient’s knowledge of the French language, the recommendation from a teacher of French, and the recipient’s description of travel plans. This grant is meant to enhance your plans to visit a French-speaking country; in exchange, the Alliance Française wishes to receive travel news from the recipient, either during travel and/or after the trip is finished. Students participating the in Drake Law Summer in France program are eligible to apply.

Financial Requirements, Deadlines and Cancellation Policy

Non-refundable Deposit

Seats in this program are limited. A student must pay a $250 deposit to hold a seat, which will be credited toward the combined tuition and housing costs. The deposit will be credited toward the combined tuition and housing costs, and a student may not withdraw from the Summer in France Law Program once his or her deposit is paid without permission of the Program Director Ellen Yee. The $250 deposit will be refunded if a student is not accepted into the program. Otherwise, the $250 deposit is not refundable unless the program is cancelled or substantially altered.

Application will not be approved until deposit is received.

A student may not withdraw from the Summer in France Law Program once his or her deposit is paid, except in accordance with the Summer in France Cancellation, Withdrawal, and Refund Policy. The $250 deposit is refundable if a student is not accepted into the program.
